THE CASTLE BARN
It was Nova’s desire to create a large indoor space for celebration.
Luckily, one of the many old farm buildings on the property was
perfect: The Castle Barn is a large 3-story former dairy barn, 115 feet
long which Nova brought back to life. He reinforced the beams with
wood recycled from a church in Brooklyn dubbed “noble wood”. The
structure was reroofed and skylights were added to bring in the sky.
The barn’s cupola was made accessible when Nova built a center
platform and a stairway to the peak, 35 feet from ground level. From
the cupola there is a panoramic view of the 95 acre property and the
surrounding hills and farmland.
The Castle’s Barn’s front door facing the sculpture fields was replaced
by Nova with huge, hand made, sturdy doors of noble wood with steel
brackets and clear windows that stream light and sunset views into
the interior.
A large platform adjacent to the door is the landing place for
“Stargate” a massive sculptural triangle which frames “The
Astronauts” in the distance. Tables, stools and wooden benches were
created for outdoor gathering. The Castle is the home of the
“Celebration Table,” built by Nova for the space, an impressive 25 foot
long table which can accommodate 30 people.
The space can also be accessed from the courtyard below via a ramp
to a balcony that Nova built, trimmed in bamboo and thatch to add a
tropical flavor.
“The Castle Barn” in combination with beautiful fields, Nova’s
sculptures and grazing horses and sheep is a highly-sought
celebration space for special events and benefits. It can hold up to
300 people. This unique multi-functional building is reminiscent of a
Romanian castle designed for our times.
